Sean Connery is a member of the Scottish National Party. This is a political organization which campaigns for Scottish independence. Sean has supported the Scottish National Party with both financial backing and with personal appearances. In an interview given by Connery with the Scottish Sunday Express, he stated that he believed that Scotland would become an independent country within his lifetime. He praised the work of the Scottish National Party after they won the 2007 Scottish Parliamentary elections. He has donated thousands of pounds to the centre-left political party and has sworn not to return to Scotland until it gains its independence.

This has been criticized by some. While making donations and appearances for the Scottish National Party, Sean lives as a tax exile in the Bahamas. He has also been accused of being a hypocrite for accepting a knighthood from the British government in 1999. It should however be said that Scotland is still under the rule of the British and his award would have been a very good way for Connery to highlight the valuable inroads that have been made in Scotland, including the new parliament. It has been said that his political views have in fact delayed the knighthood by many years.

The Scottish National Party still supports Sean Connery and recognizes the valuable contributions that are being made by him towards independence and his campaigning during the Scottish Referendum. It was this referendum that created the new Scottish Parliament. Sean Connerys’ ongoing support for his chosen political party and the independence of his country is a credit to the actor and his sense of social justice.

Sean Connery got his big break with the James Bond series of films. Sean played the lead character of the British secret agent James Bond. He was James Bond in seven of the Bond films. All seven films had great commercial success.

1962 Dr No

1963 From Russia with Love

1964 Goldfinger

1965 Thunderball

1967 You Only Live Twice

1971 Diamonds Are Forever

1983 Never Say Never Again

Sean Connery was chosen for the role of James Bond by Ian Fleming’s girlfriend, who told him that Sean had the sexual charisma needed for the role. Connery was a muscular man, standing at six foot two inches and was Scottish. This was exactly what Ian Fleming did not want, feeling that Connery was unrefined and looked like an “overgrown stunt man”. Fleming changed his mind after the overwhelming success of Dr No. Fleming created a half Scottish and half Swiss heritage for the literary James Bond in his later novels.

The character of James Bond and Connery’s portrayal of Bond was polished by the director Terence Young. Young taught Connery how to use his grace and presence on screen. Young taught Connery how to walk and talk, how to eat, perhaps even taught him how to be classy. Terence Young and Sean Connery made the character James Bond the international success that it became.

While making the Bond films Sean starred in other critically acclaimed films. In 1964 he starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s film Marine. He was in the Murder on the Orient Express in 1974 and had two movies released during 1975, Who Would Be King and The Wind and the Lion. Sean is one of the great motion picture stars of our time and has had many movies and many box office successes. In 1983 Never Say Never Again was released. After his experience with the movie and the court case that followed Connery turned his back on the major studios and did not make any films for two years. He again found success with The Name of the Rose in 1986, he won a BAFTA for this role and then with The Untouchables in 1987 he won an Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actor. His successes continued with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989 and the Hunt for Red October in 1990.

We all like to see good acting when we go to the movies and some of the best actors are not always from America and Hollywood. It does seem to be a fashion that the best actors and actresses do go to Hollywood after a time usually because they have been selected to star in a new film. The question is who wouldn’t want to star in a Hollywood movie which is most likely what Sean Connery said when he was selected to star in his first role. Born in 1930 you would have to agree that Sean has had a very long and very impressive acting career which has span over nearly 5 decades. Starting out as a teenager in Scotland he soon found that it was the American movies that made all of the money for the actors so he started to follow the Hollywood line. 1954 was his first time as an actor on a movie set and he kept going and going each year, sometimes making more than one movie as well as helping being the director and the producer of some movies later in his life.

He was made famous when he became the 007 James Bond characters which was something of an honor for actors to get the part. After doing several of these James Bond movies his luck with getting roles to play was something of a legend because no other actor was in more demand than Sean was. His good looks and accent gave him that little edge which drove the women wild and made the men envy him as well as the characters that he played. His job as an actor was very successful since he has made so many people happy with his movies over such a long time. His voice has been used for some voice over work as well as some animations which have been coming out lately. The last great film that we see Sean in was the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in 2003 and then another animated series in 2006. While his career may be slowing down as Sean gets older his fame will never slow down after all the great work that he has done.

The greatest of the bonds, Sean Connery set a high level bar for future James Bonds actors to have to live up to just because his style as an actor was one that captured the hearts of women and the attention of men. His great accent had a lot to do with it too but it was truly mostly his acting skills. Sean has appeared in many movies over his long career as an actor which has spanned over several decades now. Movies like the Name of the Rose and the Untouchables where classics that will never die mostly because of the actors in them like Sean. Coming up to 78 years old this year we will no doubt see more of Sean Connery in some movie or another because there has been no mention of him retiring yet. This is great news for his many fans because there is still life in the old dog yet as they say.

Other movie titles include, besides a variety of James Bond movies, a night to remember back in the late 1950s which was a movie about the titanic. The longest day was another great movie that Sean was a big actor in which was not long after the night to remember film. From 1960 to 1967 he starred in several Bond films which were not really for the children but as time went on the Bond movies changed their rating to get a bigger audience and more watcher for the next generation. The hunt for Red October was another winning adventure that Sean was a lead in and this movie, like many of his others is still popular today. More recent films include First Knight and the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen which were both block buster movies.

About Sir Sean Connery

Sir Thomas Sean Connery is a movie star and producer. Scottish born young Thomas was often called by his middle name, Sean because everyone thought it was a much more suiting name, especially when he played with a friend named Seamus. His first job was as a milkman and eventually joined the Royal Navy. He was eventually discharged because of an ulcer that he had developed, as cause for medical concerns. The still young Sean Connery then went through a series of other jobs, including a coffin polisher at one time before he ever got into an acting contract. He ended up working backstage at the King’s Theatre and landed a small part in the production of “South Pacific” which started his career.

Sean Connery had eventually made his way into Hollywood where he became well known as the international spy, James Bond. He starred as Bond in several of the films and got the part because Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, had a girlfriend that confessed to Ian that Connery had requisite sexual charisma needed to make the character more seductive and entrancing. Ian had envisioned Bond as a different character, not 6 foot 2 inches tall and very muscular, but it turns out that Connery was a huge success when playing the part. After his acting with Bond was over, Connery went on to make several great movies and is rumored to make more movies even though he has officially retired. He has done work in the James Bond video game by EA sports as a voice actor.
